Ohio Auto Advancement
When MAGNET received word it was selected as the Ohio Edison Technology Center to focus on assisting the motor vehicle and parts manufacturing industry, it immediately began searching for strategic partners to help fulfill that vital task. MAGNET quickly identified Ohio State University’s Center for Automotive Research (CAR) as a partner capable of helping Ohio’s auto manufacturing and supply companies become more competitive.
Operating from state-of-the-art facilities in Columbus, CAR—an interdisciplinary research center in Ohio State’s College of Engineering—is helping shape the future of the auto industry, including smart grid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Combined with MAGNET’s expertise in training shop floor and management employees in lean and quality manufacturing practices, companies in Ohio producing for the auto industry now have a single “go to” Edison Center they can contact for assistance in growing and improving their operations.
Working together and by adding other key partners to their efforts, MAGNET and CAR are helping ensure that Ohio’s auto manufacturing story—one that involves companies and workers utilizing new technologies in emerging new markets—is one that will help sustain future growth and prosperity for the citizens of Ohio.
