Do we dream . . .
or build?

Typically, when the need arises to illustrate the concept of “Focus on the Future,” the imagery includes one of these:
   • binoculars (to look down the road)
   • a magnifying glass (to clearly see fine details)
   • a fortune teller’s crystal ball (for some mystical      help).

In 2010, however, this traditional imagery seems outdated. Even more, it’s not relevant to today’s culture and economy. So let’s consider new imagery to represent Ohio’s future:

Construction equipment.

We’re aware that low-tech bulldozers and cranes might not fit the image of what you’ve come to associate with Ohio’s Edison Technology Centers. And while we support efforts to rebuild our state’s vital infrastructure, there’s something far different at work than just roads and bridges.

Before any meaningful construction takes place, careful planning and then careful destruction must happen. Mountains must be moved, and outdated structures torn down. Lives get a bit disrupted. In short, it can be quite a mess. But it’s a necessary step in the process to build something better, more suitable for the future.

The seven Edison Technology Centers are constantly engaged in breaking down the walls that prevent Ohioans from participating in the new economy. And with the help of our many partners and the citizens of Ohio, we’re even more involved in planning and constructing our future.

After all, the view of the future is always better when you’re involved in not just dreaming it, but in actually building it, too.
